(We reserve the right to substitute due to weather or availability)
We recommend that you fly into Phoenix, AZ (Airport Code is PHX)
Day 1 Gather together for our orientation program, which includes checking into the hotel. Soon you’ll be taking an exciting ride on your recumbent trike, which is designed for ultimate cycling comfort! We take a scenic van ride, enjoying our first views of the beautiful desert and walk through the upscale shops of scenic El Pedregal, stop to eat a delicious dinner and return to our resort with flickering starlight above us and a flickering campfire at our feet. The fire-guide delights us with informative stories of the southwest and camaraderie as we roast marshmallows. (Campfire experience is a nightly event).
Day 2 We meet for breakfast at 8 a.m., do some warm up exercises and stretches (this is done on a daily basis), then head out for an enjoyable morning of comfortable cycling for about 2 hours with stunning views of Bartlett Lake, where the desert and waters meet. [Many photo opportunities, so bring your camera]. We will have lunch and a leisurely tour of the Heard Museum North for a look at the history and culture of the Native Peoples of the southwest. We head back to the hotel and join up for dinner at one of the local restaurants.
Day 3 Meet for breakfast and set out for about 2 hours of cycling. This afternoon, enjoy a scenic hike on Camelback Mountain with nice views and lunch served mountain top. After heading back to our resort there is time for a swim or the hot tub and a rest before tonight’s dinner.
Day 4 After breakfast, we set out for an awesome van tour along the historic and rugged Apache Trail with a stop for ice cream at Tortilla Flats, and a stop to see the Roosevelt Dam, the world's highest masonry dam. We visit Tonto National Monument, taking the short, steep hike on a paved trail to the cliff dwellings that were once occupied by the Salado culture during the 13th, 14th, and early 15th centuries. Dinner will be at another great restaurant!
Day 5 This morning, in addition to about 2 hours of cycling, our last adventure will be an optional horseback ride. After enjoying a nice lunch together we will check out of the hotel and you will be driven to the airport or other place of departure. We are sure you will be leaving with fond memories of fun and comfortable cycling as well as your many adventures in the Sonoran Desert of Arizona!
